The Central Indiana Clean Cities Alliance (CICCA) presented Ball State with its Stakeholder Achievement Award on Jan. 31 for the university's use of biodiesel and ethanol in campus shuttles, trucks and cars.

Ball State began running campus vehicles on biofuels in 2003. Ball State's 78 diesel-powered shuttles and trucks run on soybean-based biodiesel, while 57 flex-fuel cars run on E85, a blend of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline.

"We are honored to receive this award for doing what we believe right: our part in moving our nation away from foreign oil dependence," said Sue Weller, director of facilities business services and transportation. "Our campus fleet initiatives are but a part of the university's overall greening policies."

The city of Indianapolis and General Motors Corp. also received awards.
