The College of Sciences and Humanities (CSH) prepares students with the skills and knowledge they need to be successful, innovative, responsible, and visionary 21st century citizens engaged in a diverse globalized world.

Encompassing disciplines in humanities, social sciences, and physical, computational, and natural sciences, we strive to provide an education that empowers our students to learn in the classroom and the community.

Facility Tours

The state-of-the-art Foundational Sciences Building is home to our Biology and Chemistry departments. Located in East Quad, it features 72 laboratories, many Immersive Learning classrooms and flexible teaching spaces, an aquatics suite, advanced microscopy and imaging equipment, and strategically designed collaborative spaces for students to share inquiry beyond the classroom. Through the Foundational Sciences Building, Ball State faculty and students are equipped for cutting-edge research and education.

Located within Christy Woods, the Dr. Joe and Alice Rinard Orchid Greenhouse houses the Wheeler-Thanhauser Collection and Species Bank of orchids. The greenhouse was created specifically to conserve the rare and endangered species of orchids, disseminate them for conservation, and create research opportunities for students, faculty, and staff at Ball State University.

With 152 seats and a 52-foot-diameter-dome, the Charles W. Brown Planetarium is the largest in Indiana. The Planetarium is located next to the Cooper Life Science building offering weekly showings throughout the year which are open to the public. 

Planetarium programs include original animations, 3D models, music, and more, all of which are created on campus in our production dome by our students, staff, and faculty.

Studebaker West Residence HallLarge, multistory residence hall on Ball State University's campus.

One of Ball State's largest and most dynamic residence halls, Studebaker West is the home of the Humanities Living-Learning Community.

Affectionately known as "Stu West," this co-ed residence hall features community-style bathrooms, centralized air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, a spacious recreation area, multiple flour lounges, and a large multi-purpose room for events and meetings. Furniture within the hall is loftable, allowing students to truly tailor their living space. The Micro Café on the first floor is also perfect for grabbing a snack or refreshment before heading to class.

Jack Beyerl (North) Residence HallMulti-story, modern brick residence hall with open, grass plaza and sidewalks on Ball State University's campus.

Located in the north residential neighborhood, Jack Beyerl Residence Hall (North Hall) is home to the STEM Living-Learning Community.

This co-ed residence hall features semi-private bathrooms (a bathroom shared by a small numbers of students), centralized air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, a fitness room, and spacious lounges. Among its impressive amenities are 3D printers, Glowforges, and VR headsets, enabling students to engage in advanced projects and explorations right where they live.
