CARES (Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security) Act
CARES Act federal assistance for allowable expenses was provided to students who were eligible for federal financial aid in accordance with guidance from the U.S. Department of Education. Funds could be used for expenses related to the disruption of campus operations as a result of the coronavirus, such as food, housing, course materials, technology, health care and child care.
The CARES Act established the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) to provide emergency financial aid grants directly to students. The HEERF emergency grant awards were disbursed directly to students.
Ball State University signed and returned the Certification and Agreement to the U.S. Department of Education on May 1, 2020. The University agrees to use the funds to provide emergency financial aid grants to students.
The total amount of funds authorized from the Department of Education pursuant to the institution's Certification and Agreement for Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students under the CARES Act was $7,623,465.
CRRSAA (Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act) and ARP (American Rescue Plan)
Ball State University signed and returned the Original CARES Act Certification and Agreement to the U.S. Department of Education on May 1, 2020. CRRSAA authorized a supplemental award March 2, 2021 for $7,623,465. ARP authorized an additional award 6/10/2021 for $20,063,538.
The total amount of funds authorized from the Department of Education pursuant to the institution's Certification and Agreement for Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students under the CRRSAA (a)(1) and ARP (a)(1) programs is $27,687,003. The University agrees to use the funds to provide emergency financial aid grants to students.
