If you’re interested in attending college while learning what it takes to become a U.S. Army officer, ROTC may be right for you. In addition to teaching you valuable leadership skills, military training, and discipline, ROTC can also provide you with money for tuition and other expenses through scholarships.
Apply to the Program
You will need to be admitted to Ball State University in order to join ROTC. Find a major that fits well with your future careers goals with the military. Also, if you’re in high school, consider scheduling a visit to campus to meet with our recruiting officer.
High School Students
Now is the time to prepare yourself for college. When we evaluate applicants for ROTC scholarships, we look for character traits and demonstrated leadership, academic, and athletic performance.
The most important things you can do is:
- study and achieve good grades
- participate as a leader in school and community organizations such as the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and 4-H
- develop your physical fitness by participating in varsity athletics, intramural sports, or organized sports
Current Ball State Students
First, come by
Ball Gymnasium and explore the opportunities in ROTC and talk to the staff and cadets.
Second, sign up to take an ROTC military science course and see what it’s all about.
Once you experience ROTC, you will see that it’s more than just going to class.
Active Military Members
The Simultaneous Membership Program allows you to take Army ROTC courses while also serving in the U.S. Army Reserve or U.S. Army National Guard.
It gives you an opportunity for additional training and experience. Cadets serve as officer trainees in the Reserve or National Guard while completing college. You can earn Reserve/Guard pay and benefits in addition to your Army ROTC allowances.
