The School of Art offers a four-year liberal arts degree program leading to a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Art with a concentration in Studio Art or Art History. The BA in Art with a concentration in Studio Art trains you in the fundamentals of art and is an excellent choice for students who are looking to pair studio art with another major or minor. The BA in Art with a concentration in Art History teaches you to think critically and communicate effectively as you interpret the significance of global art from ancient to contemporary times
Studio Art encompasses creative practices in ceramics, drawing, glass, metals + jewelry, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and video and new media. Students pursue one of these studio areas of emphasis or craft their own interdisciplinary path.
Students begin in our First-Year Foundations Program which nurtures their interests and skills through classes in drawing, 2D, 3D, and 4D. Intermediate classes focus on developing practical skills in a variety of mediums and methods. Advanced courses center on building theoretical and technical competencies in studio practices. Students also explore other interests across the university and are encouraged to incorporate those interests into their artistic production.
