Yes, we provide a stipend and tuition waiver for each Fall, Spring, and Summer. This is renewable each year, three years for PhD students and two years for master’s students.

No, only those accepted to receive a stipend and tuition waiver are accepted into the program.
Yes, all students receiving a stipend have their own carrel and workspace to promote daily interaction with the faculty, staff, and other students.

We encourage students to visit in support of their application. Visits are usually scheduled over the course of a full day (approximately 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.) to allow time to meet all the faculty, staff, and students, and to see the facilities and campus.

Contact Dr. Scott Trappe to set up a visit.

We usually take two to three students in each of the PhD and Exercise Physiology MS programs. The process is highly competitive.

Yes, a strong science background is highly preferred for both the Human Bioenergetics PhD and Exercise Physiology MS programs.

This commonly includes:

  • inorganic and organic chemistry
  • biology
  • molecular biology
  • biochemistry
  • physics
  • anatomy
  • physiology
  • exercise physiology

Note: Two semesters of organic chemistry (organic 1 and organic 2) with lab are required for acceptance into either the PhD or MS program, as these are a prerequisite for the biochemistry course (CHEM 563) you will take your first semester.

With over 60 PhD graduates and approximately 200 graduates of the Exercise Physiology MS program, we take pride in the future successes and placement of our students.

Graduates of the PhD program typically go on to complete post-doctoral training in an area of their interest, obtain a university professorship, or enter an industry-based research or administrative position.

Graduates of the Exercise Physiology master’s program typically enter a PhD program of their choice.
