On 22 April 2015, COTE announced its 2014-2015 COTE award recipients.
The awards fall into three main categories:
COTE Exemplar Awards recognize individuals or groups with significant accomplishments promoting the sustainable use of natural resources or the protection of ecological systems.
Individuals who have a record of continual significant achievements are further recognized by the awarding of a "COTE Exemplar Lifetime Achievement Award".
COTE Green Initiative Awards recognize everyday activities, decisions or contributions that help to move Ball State University toward sustainability. Their purpose is to reward discrete contributions rather than a history of multiple accomplishments.
COTE Service Awards recognize past individual service on or to the BSU Council on the Environment.

COTE Exemplar Award
Dr. Alan Hargrave,
Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Services and Director of Housing and Residence Life
This Council on the Environment Exemplar Award is presented in recognition of Dr. Hargrave’s work toward sustainability on behalf of Ball State University. Dr. Hargrave has worked tirelessly to improve sustainability in the operations of student affairs as well as raise environmental awareness among students, staff and the general public.
COTE Green Initiative Awards
Dr. Lee Florea, Assistant Professor, Geological Sciences
and
Dr. Adam Kuban, Assistant Professor, Journalism
This Council on the Environment Green Initiative Award is presented for teaching and expanding the immersive learning course collaboration of GEOL 462/NEWS 397. This work contributed to the submissions for grants from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Lake & River Enhancement Program for the removal of logjams in the Mississinewa River as well as the pursuit of a Discovery Grant for expansion of the presence of the course online as well as a mobile application.
Katlyn Faye Lichtsinn, Undergraduate Student
This Council on the Environment Green Initiative Award is presented for initiation of the Permaculture Initiative in Muncie. The Initiative successfully designed and planted a holistically-designed vegetable garden at Minnetrista demonstrating regeneration and self-maintenance. The Permaculture Initiative observes, maintains records and responds to changes in the garden.

In recognition of their commitment to the stewardship of our natural resources, the protection of ecological systems and the public’s understanding of the complex issues that bear upon our stewardship of natural resources, as demonstrated by past service on the BSU Council on the Environment, the following individuals are recognized with 2015 COTE Service Awards:
