Next Steps™ workshop is a discussion-based workshop in which the team from HANDS in Autism® discuss general information about diagnosis, adjusting to diagnosis, and how to make appropriate treatment decisions. A comprehensive manual is distributed during the workshop (one per household). No direct or individual consultation on treatment decisions will be given.
Next Steps™ is primarily designed for primary caregivers who have a child that has recently been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). However, this workshop is also beneficial for other caregivers, educational or therapy professionals, medical providers, and other adult family members.
Due to the kind sponsorship of Kappa Kappa Kappa, Inc., several Next Steps™ workshops a year are offered free of charge. Other workshops receive community sponsorship. Please contact HANDS in Autism® to learn more about hosting a workshop in your area.

School Nurses + Autism Spectrum Disorder + Progressive Programs (SNAPP) presents Addressing the Healthcare Needs of Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder second annual conference, Saturday, February 23, 2019, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Alumni Center, Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana.
New statistics from the CDC indicate that 1 in 59 individuals are diagnosed with ASD. Overwhelmingly, we heard last year that the conference provided valuable and relevant information. This year's conference will address safety concerns of children with ASD. Participants will learn to identify methods and strategies to de-escalate a crisis situation, will gain knowledge regarding how medication and nutrition relate to the safety of children with ASD in our schools, and will understand perspectives of individuals with ASD. We hope that you will consider joining us again this year and will invite a colleague to attend with you.

2017 Conference on Post-secondary Options and Supports for Transitioning Students with Autism Spectrum Disorders.
The purpose of this conference was to showcase best practices that allow students with autism to access, persist in, and graduate college and succeed in finding and maintaining meaningful, competitive employment. This conference was important due to the increase in students diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders who are reaching transition age. The conference was developed for students with autism in high school and college, researchers and faculty, higher education personnel, community agency staff, program staff, parents and teachers to learn about best practices in the field and the current state of research. In addition, the goal of the conference was to help further the opportunities and supports available to transition-age students with ASD to pursue and succeed in college.
The program included three strands: one each for students with Autism Spectrum Disorders, parents, and professionals and faculty working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorders.
This conference was held on March 30, 2017, at the LA Pittenger Student Center on the Ball State University campus in Muncie, Indiana.
