Project Summary
The Applied
Archaeology Laboratories (AAL) at Ball State University (BSU) is proposing to
develop and submit a comprehensive and detailed preservation planning document
for the battlefield that encompasses the Battle of the Wabash (1791) and the
Battle of Fort Recovery (1794). The preservation planning document will detail
short and long term planning goals (1 year, 5 year, 10 year, and beyond) for
future community development and battlefield preservation. Based on current
community input, these goals will be focused on mitigating site destruction and
creating an interactive space within the battlefield area dedicated to public
education. Additional preservation and
protection goals and plans will be determined and developed through a series of
community consensus and planning meetings.
In addition to the preservation planning document, a web site will be
created that details all past research on the battlefields including the 2010
ABPP grant results, 2012 ABPP grant results and NRHP nomination amendment, and
all bibliographic and historical sources. The ease of availability of these
resources will increase public awareness of the historical significance of this
site and create additional interest in the preservation and protection of the
battlefield.
