The Tony Award-winning musical is part of a new national tour from Broadway to Muncie. A groundbreaking reimagining of L. Frank Baum’s The Wizard of Oz, The Wiz follows Dorothy on her journey through Oz, pairing the beloved story with a score infused with soul, gospel, rock, and ’70s funk.

“The Wiz is a joyful, energetic production that has had an extraordinary impact on American musical theater,” said Cristina Goletti, dean of the College of Fine Arts.  “We’re excited to welcome this celebrated Broadway production to Emens and give our community the opportunity to experience its music, storytelling, and unforgettable performances.”

Premiering on Broadway in 1975, The Wiz won seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and features popular songs such as “Ease on Down the Road” and “Home.” The musical  was adapted into the classic 1978 film starring Diana Ross as Dorothy and Michael Jackson as the Scarecrow.

Audience Advisory: The Wiz is recommended for ages 8 and older. The production runs approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes, and includes haze, smoke, and flashing lights.
