Ball State University’s sports administration graduate program is ranked 29th in the world and 18th in the U.S. in the 2019 SportBusiness’ annual survey of the world’s best postgraduate sport industry programs.

The nomination process included information about the program provided by the coordinator, as well as an alumni survey sent by SportBusiness to the Class of 2015-16. Among the highlights from the alumni survey was a 92.86 sport employment rating for six months after graduation.

“This is a tremendous honor for our program and Ball State University,” said James Johnson, an associate professor of sport administration and graduate program coordinator. “The recognition not only honors the work done by the dedicated faculty and administrators in the School of Kinesiology and the College of Health, but also showcases the commitment of our student mentors, industry collaborators, and our outstanding alumni.

“The alumni survey also demonstrates how well our recent graduates are doing in the job market because the overwhelming majority are thriving in the sport industry,” he said. “Sport management/administration is a dynamic field with many opportunities. From sport marketing, to sales, to game-day operations, our alumni are doing it all. These careers can be found in community, high school, college, and professional sports. Many of these sporting environments have high participation and consumption rates and need trained professionals to ensure a quality product.”

The report will be published in the July 2019 edition of SportBusiness Review. Launched in 1996, SportBusiness provides news, analysis, data, consulting and events to deliver a competitive advantage to executives in the business of sport.
