Students celebrate earning their degrees during last year’s Summer Commencement.
Ball State University will confer about 1,500 degrees during Summer Commencement on Saturday, July 21, at Worthen Arena. The ceremony begins at 10 a.m.
Lawrence W. Judge, professor, associate chair of the School of Kinesiology, and coordinator of the graduate coaching education program, will deliver the keynote address, “Progress, Not Perfection.”

Dr. Judge has been at Ball State for 12 years and has been a leader in track and field coaching education and coach development for more than 30 years. He’s been part of the U.S. Paralympic National Team coaching staff five times.
In 2017, Dr. Judge was assistant track and field coach for the World Para Athletics Championships in London, where he guided Jeremy Campbell to his third consecutive gold medal in the F44 discus throw. He was an assistant U.S. coach in the past two Paralympic Games.
Since 2013, Dr. Judge has served as the national chair of USA Track & Field (USATF) coaching education, guiding the Level 1 and 2 programs to accreditation through the National Committee for Accreditation of Coaching Education. He co-authored the USATF/National Federation of State High School Associations fundamentals of track and field online coaching course. He is also the 2017 recipient of Ball State’s Outstanding Faculty Award.
