A notable broadcast journalist, legendary basketball coach and A-list film star are among those headlining this fall's line-up of speakers coming to Ball State University.
Kathleen Turner, an Oscar nominated actress, will give a public talkback to the campus and community at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 29 in University Theatre. Turner's career has spanned theater, television and cinema, with her most famous Hollywood films including Body Heat, Romancing the Stone, and Peggy Sue Got Married.
Retired basketball coach Bob Knight will discuss his decades-long career on the court, speaking about his wins, conference titles, national championships and the exemplary graduation rate and post-collegiate success of his players. "An Evening with Bob Knight" will begin at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 3 in Emens Auditorium.
Soledad O'Brien, whose career has taken her from producing and reporting roles for NBC News, CNN and HBO to chairman of Starfish Media, a 360-media production company and distributor, will present "An Evening With Soledad O’Brien: Her Life Stories" at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 14 in Emens Auditorium. O'Brien will share stories about her career with an emphasis on her belief in a strong work ethic and never-give-up attitude. Her appearance is part of the Excellence in Leadership (EIL) Speaker Series.
The next installment of the David Letterman Distinguished Professional Lecture and Workshop Series will feature Michael Rogers, who is a futurist-in-residence for The New York Times and a columnist for MSNBC.com. The event will begin at 6 p.m. Oct. 24 in Pruis Hall.
Wil Haygood, author of "The Butler: A Witness to History," and associate producer of the newly released film adaptation starring Oprah Winfrey, Forest Whitaker and Cuba Gooding Jr., will discuss his book and movie at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 30 in Pruis Hall. Both the book and movie tell the true story of a White House butler who served eight presidents. Haygood’s presentation, another in the EIL Speaker Series, will explore leadership, civil rights, and the idea that, through service, we can all lead.
Daniel Libeskind, an international architect and designer, created the master plan for redeveloping the World Trade Center site in New York City following 9/11. Libeskind will be a Charles M. Sappenfield Guest Lecturer, and will speak at 7 p.m. Nov. 4 in Pruis Hall.
Storyteller and humorist Garrison Keillor will discuss how he hosted the first broadcast of A Prairie Home Companion in St. Paul in 1974. Today, some four million listeners on more than 600 public radio stations nationwide tune in to his weekly show. "An Evening with Garrison Keillor" will begin at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 18 in Emens Auditorium.
