Journalism professor emeritus Mark Popovich has established a family fund in excess of $26,000 to provide scholarships to Ball State undergraduate students planning to attend the university's London Center.

As a professor in the Department of Journalism for 38 years, Mark Popovich served as chairman of the department from 1979-84 and served on every department committee during his years there. Popovich currently serves as treasurer of the International Society for the Scientific Study of Subjectivity and represents east central Indiana on the state board of the American Civil Liberties Union.

Ball State is a tradition in the Popovich family.  Popovich's sister, Marilyn Furticella, holds two master's degrees from Ball State, and her son earned his bachelor's degree in journalism from the university. Popovich's wife, Karen, has a bachelor's and master's degree from Ball State. Three of his children have bachelor's degrees from Ball State and another is currently a sophomore.

Preference for the Mark Popovich Family Fund will be given to undergraduate students attending the London Center who are pursuing a major within the Department of Journalism. If none of the students selected is pursuing a journalism major, second preference will be given to students pursuing any major within the College of Communication, Information and Media (CCIM), third preference will be given to students pursuing any major.

Availability of the scholarship is dependent upon an award selection process established by Ball State and its academic departments. For specifics about this scholarship, contact the Rinker Center for International Programs at 765-285-5422.
