Longtime east central Indiana resident and Ball State University alumna Mary Jane Bergdoll has created a scholarship fund of more than $450,000 through her estate for area high school graduates seeking undergraduate degrees in the university's School of Music.
The Mary Jane Bergdoll Scholarship Fund will be made available to high school graduates from the Anderson (Ind.) Community School Corp. If no such applicants exist, the scholarship will be opened to other in-state students majoring in music at Ball State.
Bergdoll received her bachelor's degree (1945) and master's degree (1957) from Ball State. She worked in the Indiana school system for more than 40 years, including 20 years as music supervisor of elementary schools in Anderson before retiring in 1986. She was a member of the Indiana Music Educators Association, Music Education National Conference, Lambda Theta Sorority and Delta Kappa Gamma Society.
Scholarship recipients will be chosen primarily based on talent. Other criteria include academic achievement, leadership, enthusiasm and need. Availability of the scholarship is dependent upon an award selection process established by Ball State and its academic departments. For specifics about this scholarship, contact the School of Music at 765-285-5500.
For more information about other scholarships available at Ball State, contact the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid at 765-285-5600 or visit www.bsu.edu/finaid.
