Sports Link, the Emmy Award-winning
immersive learning program at Ball State University, recently received a prestigious College Sports Media Award for the nation's best collegiate feature story.
"Basketball Beyond Borders – The Jarrod Jones Story" produced by students Ben Wagner and Kyle Binder was chosen by a panel of sports media professionals.
Wagner and Chris Taylor, a Ball State telecommunications instructor mentoring Sports Link students, accepted the award during Sports Video Group's College Sports Video Summit in Atlanta. SVG and the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) announced the winners June 7.
"We had a record number of entries this year, and we saw the quality of production rise to a very high level, creating a fierce competition," said Tom Buffolano, conference chair of the College Sports Video Summit.
Nominees represented dozens of college athletic and academic departments, as well as professional production companies including ESPN, CBS and Turner Sports.
In addition to the feature win, Sports Link's production of Ball State men's volleyball vs. ninth-ranked Penn State was one of five nominees for best live production.
