Ball State University's Arts Alive Concert Series lineup for the sixth season features performances by award-winning ensemble and individual musical artists at Sursa Performance Hall.
The Academy of St. Martin in the Fields Chamber Ensemble will start the series with an Oct. 8 performance. An internationally famous group from England, the ensemble was formed in 1959. With more than 500 recordings, it is now the most recorded chamber orchestra in the world.
On March 16, acclaimed trumpet player Sergei Nakariakov will perform. Nakariakov recorded his first CD in 1992 at the age of 15 and has since recorded works by Tchaikovsky, Johann Nepomuck Hummel, Telemann, Mozart and Felix Mendelssohn.
Rising star Jonathan Biss will close the series with an April 13 concert. Biss, who studied piano at Indiana University and att Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, has since received numerous competitive awards and accolades for his performances.
Robert Kvam, dean of the College of Fine Arts, said that this is an exceptional concert series, bringing first-class talent to the Muncie community, performers we are used to seeing only in large metropolitan areas such as New York or Los Angeles.
"The opportunity to hear this caliber of performance locally is rare," Kvam said. "These performers are absolutely world class, and they have been effusive concerning the great acoustics and sumptuous environment of Sursa Performance Hall."
All concerts in the Arts Alive Concert series are scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $80 for the entire series and $35 for individual concerts. For more information, call Ball State's box office at 765-285-5581.
