Kellie Conrad
Kellie Conrad, a sophomore from Indianapolis, has been appointed to the Ball State Board of Trustees by Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels.
Conrad, a telecommunications major and Spanish and digital media minor, replaces Danielle Frazier of New Palestine, who graduated in May. Her two-year appointment begins immediately.
Even before taking this position, Conrad already has board experience. While still in high school, she founded the junior board for Indianapolis-based Art with a Heart. The organization's goal is to provide visual art experiences for at-risk children in the inner city. Knowing that she could enroll in immersive learning courses typically reserved for upper-class students made Ball State a clear choice, Conrad said.
"I decided on attending Ball State late in my high school career after I was given a tour of the telecommunications building," said Conrad, also busy on campus as a member of Alpha Phi sorority and a group fitness instructor. "I was blown away by the opportunities available to me. The department chair, Nancy Carlson, helped me springboard into becoming fully involved in so many different activities in just my first year."
As a freshman, Conrad contributed to multiple media outlets on campus. She wrote for the Ball State Daily News, reported for NewsWatch and worked as a remote producer for Connections, which was recently nominated for an Emmy. She continues to serve as a member of the telecommunications student advisory committee.
One of her most memorable moments during the student trustee selection process came while meeting Ball State President Jo Ann M. Gora.
"You can tell that she is very passionate about advancing the university," Conrad said. "I look forward to helping Ball State gain more recognition for the great work it will continue to accomplish in the next two years."
