The Ball State's School of Music will feature jazz and wind band music this month as part of its annual Summer Outdoor Concert Series.

Performances include the Jazz Ensemble on June 6 and the Concert Band on June 13. Each program begins at 5:30 p.m. on the Arts Terrace, and all shows are free and open to the public.

Meryl Mantione, director of the School of Music, believes the concert series is popular because it creates a special community feeling, reminiscent of an era when bands played on lawns for picnicking hometown spectators.

"People come with lawn chairs and a bite to eat," Mantione said. "It is a great opportunity to spend time with friends and family while listening to outstanding performances by some of our top young musicians."

In case of inclement weather, the performances will be moved to the nearby Sursa Performance Hall.
