Ball State has been named the TV School of the Year by the Indiana Association of School Broadcasters (IASB).
The university was honored with the organization's top honor as students or groups representing the telecommunications department received 12 awards during the recent 2007 IASB College Competition.
"Winning for the third year in a row is a prime example of the high quality of students enrolled in the telecommunications department and the College of Communication, Information, and Media," said Nancy Carlson, chair of the telecommunication department. "Our department has a strong tradition of providing students with enriching and immersive opportunities that allow them to develop their talents."
In addition to nine individual student awards, three student organizations were honored. Winning first-place honors were Indiana Outdoors, a student group that creates a half-hour television show about the state's natural resources, historical sites and outdoor recreational opportunities; and Connections Live, a magazine format television program. Newswatch, an evening news program, received second-place honors for best newscast.
Ball State has been nationally recognized several times in recent years for its telecommunications program. In 2004 Ball State was listed as having one of the nation's top broadcasting programs in the book "This Business of Broadcasting."
