A scholarship fund totaling $50,000 was established by Waldo Beebe of Yorktown to honor his son, a Ball State alumnus.
The Otto W. Beebe Memorial Scholarship is open to incoming freshmen or transfer students with a 3.5 or higher grade point average and an SAT score of 1,500 on the new scoring system.
Students majoring in mathematical sciences are preferred. If none are available, the family's second preference is to select the greatest recruiting need within the College of Sciences and Humanities. This scholarship is renewable for three years, provided the student continues to meet the 3.0 grade point average requirement.
Otto Beebe graduated from Burris Laboratory School. He graduated with honors from Ball State, where he was on the men's track team. He earned his master's in mathematics from Purdue University.
After college, he enjoyed a successful career as an engineering manager at Siemens in Orlando, Fla., before retiring.
Beebe died of cancer in 2000. He is survived by his wife Judy of Daytona Beach, Fla., and three children.
