Ball State employees contributed more than $187,563 to help the United Way of Delaware County exceed its $2.5 million fundraising goal for 2006.

The campus campaign, which ran from Sept. 20 through Nov. 1, was administered by the Office of People and Culture Services.

After a kick-off luncheon on Sept. 20, team captains received individual packets and distributed them within their areas. Pledge cards were given to all but temporary campus employees and mailed to Ball State retirees residing in Indiana.

Chairs for the campus campaign were Laura Helms, faculty and professional personnel; Sylvia Ewert, staff personnel; Tim Jenyk, service personnel; Don Van Meter, Pathfinders; and Rich Harris, retirees.

Working with the United Way offers many on campus a way to give something back to the Muncie community, said Helms, assistant dean of University College.

"Our fundraising results show Ball State is strongly supportive of United Way's commitment to address community needs," she said.  

Seven departments had 100 percent participation from their employees. This year, the Office of Teaching and Learning won the special incentive of a pizza party for departments meeting the 100 percent participation goal.

Although the 2006 campaign has ended, those who still wish to contribute to the United Way may contact Marta Stephens at 285-1187 in the Office of People and Culture Services, Administration Building, room 350 to obtain payroll deduction and pledge cards or employees may pledge online at unitedwaytm@bsu.edu.
