Carol Friesen, an associate professor in the
family and consumer sciences department at Ball State, will participate in WISH-TV's "Eye on Kids" program.
The show will air live at 8 p.m. Jan. 23 from the Indianapolis Children's Museum.
One of three experts on children and obesity, Friesen will appear with Tonya Parish of InShape Indiana and Andrew Riggs, a pediatrician from St. Francis Hospital.
Part of Friesen's expertise lies in nutrition education strategies. She is also the coordinator of Operation Wellness, a program launched in 2003 to help Wells County residents lose weight and lead healthier lifestyles.
Through Ball State's Building Better Communities (BBC) initiative, the university is improving Indiana one community at a time. By securing $1 million in grants and coordinating Operation Wellness with many community partners, Ball State and Friesen have helped children and adults implement lifestyle changes to improve health and fitness.
BBC is a university-wide initiative designed to spur economic development and quality-of-life advancement in Indiana by extending Ball State's strengths in applied research and hands-on learning to community projects across the state.
