Title: PUBLIC SAFETY ADVISORY: Take Steps to Prevent Burglaries Over Break

In preparation for the upcoming semester break, the Department of Public Safety at Ball State offers the following safety tips to help prevent burglaries:

Make sure to lock all doors and windows.
Use an alarm system if you have one.
Do not leave keys in hiding places.
Be cautious with whom you share personal and travel information, including social media sites.
If possible, take your valuables with you during the break. If that's not possible, make sure the items are secured and not left in plain sight.
Never leave cash in your residence.
Inventory and secure electronic equipment. Photograph valuables and record serial numbers when possible. Place this information in a secure location.
Hold newspaper and mail deliveries when away from a residence for an extended time.
Program lighting and other electronic devices (televisions, radios) on timers to give the appearance that someone is home.
Store your bicycle inside if possible.
Always lock your vehicle when it is unattended.
If you see something, say something! (UPD Phone: 765-285-1111)
Good luck with finals, and enjoy the break.
