Description:
The term Artificial Intelligence (AI) gets tossed around a lot these days—from AI light bulbs and AI designer beer to AI robots eliminating the need for human jobs (maybe even eliminating humans altogether). How much of what we read is just marketing hype and how much is real? How does this AI stuff work anyway? We’ll see if we can suss it all out.
Presenter Mark Whitney Bio:
I’ve been working with computers for more years that I care to admit. Suffices it to say that in my first computer class at Butler University when I was an undergraduate chemistry major, we used punch cards to write our programs. During my work on a master’s degree in organic natural products chemistry at SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse, N.Y. I programmed my Atari computer to do my physical chemistry lab calculations for me. Since then, I’ve done hardware networking, and software development for non-profit organizations, financial management companies, and medical laboratories. For the last 8 years I’ve been the web developer for Ball State—I do the behind the scenes work for the main web site and other web properties. Over the years I’ve seen a lot of technologies come and go.
