About

International Soloist and Clinician Yu Tamaki Hoso presents a solo recital of music for trombone including new music by Japanese composers and old standards.

A Japanese solo trombonist active worldwide, Yu Tamaki Hoso is also a chamber and orchestra musician, educator, entrepreneur, published author, and producer. Yu currently resides in Denmark and serves as an official artist for Pro Arte Musicae of Tokyo, S.E. Shires Company of Boston, Glanz Trombone of Shizuoka, as well as Music Director of FukuTama Festival in Shimane and Glanz Trombone Festival in Shizuoka, founding member of Slide Japan Trombone Octet and FukuTama Trombone Quartet. Since April 2024, Hoso is appointed as a distinguished visiting professor at Osaka University of Arts.

There will be an open masterclass for any interested parties on Monday, March 24 at noon in room 117 in the Hargreaves Music Building.

Our guest artist will be accompanied at various parts of the recital by Dr. Cara Chowning (piano), Chris Van Hof (trombone), and The Cardinal Trombone Choir.

This event is free and open to the public.

Parking

Parking is available in the McKinley Parking Garage (entrance on Ashland Avenue) located immediately south of Sursa Hall. On weekdays, metered parking ($1/hr) is available on the first floor of the garage until 7 p.m. at which time parking is free. This garage is free on weekends.
