Double Stigma: Addiction and Recovery
Heavy alcohol consumption and opioid overdose rates continue to increase in the United States (U.S.). Medication-assisted treatment (MAT), an evidence-based treatment, is the use of medications combined with psychosocial interventions to treat substance use disorders (SUDs). Social workers provide approximately 70% of the behavioral health care in the U.S. Thus, this research presentation focuses on how social workers' perceptions of SUDs impact MAT acceptance.
Featured Speaker:
Dr. Joe Bartholomew, is an assistant professor of Social Work in the Department of Social Work. His research is centered around substance use disorders, addiction and recovery.
