About Brian Hayes
Brian Hayes is Assistant Dean for Student Outreach and Engagement in the College of Communication, Information, and Media, and Senior Lecturer of Journalism in the School of Journalism and Strategic Communication. In CCIM, Hayes coordinates the college’s outreach efforts, planning professional development and student engagement activities for secondary and post-secondary students such as JDay+/CCIM+, the CCIM+ Internship and Career Fair, summer workshops and CCIM Jump Start, among others. Within the SJSC, he teaches courses in information design and professional development, and directs the journalism education and internship programs. Hayes is a former high school journalism teacher and was a professional newspaper designer and graphics editor in four cities. His contributions to journalism education have been recognized at both the state and national levels, most prominently through working with the Indiana High School Press Association, the Indiana Department of Education and the Journalism Education Association, a national organization for journalism teachers and student media advisers. At Ball State, Hayes serves on multiple school and university-level committees and is a past-president and member of Ball State’s Journalism Alumni Society.
