Universities of the Future can play a key role in the global system of Regional Centers of Expertise being facilitated by the U.N. University. Collectively, these RCEs can be the primary global network of educators (formal, non-formal and informal) and can function as the primary global learning space for Sustainable Development and the primary means for delivering education for sustainable development (ESD) to
local and regional communities.
RCEs can help communities achieve the goals of the
UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (DESD, 2005-2014), by translating the DESD’s global objectives into action agenda for local communities.
