Civics education to come to the earliest grades under Indiana proposal
In Heather Veatch’s fourth grade class at East Washington Academy in Muncie, students run for office at the beginning of the year.
Despite their nerves, they each give a speech to their peers introducing themselves and their ideas and then vote for president, vice president, senators, and representatives. Veatch’s students bring issues to their elected leaders, who work to address them.

Grants to fund new civics education, tutoring for Muncie students
MUNCIE, Ind. — Muncie Community Schools will participate in two grant-funded projects, one to develop a new civics education program, and the other to fund extra tutoring for students in math and language arts, school officials announced this week.

Ball State receives funding to prepare for civics education
Ball State University has been awarded a three-year, $1.3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education to help enhance civics education in Muncie Community Schools. The university says the funding comes at a critical time as a new state law requiring a civics course in middle schools is set to be implemented in the 2023-2024 school year.

Ball State to help K-12 teachers build student civics education with federal grant
Beginning next year, Indiana middle schoolers will take classes on civics and government previously only required in high school. Ball State University will help Hoosier teachers prepare, thanks to a multi-year, $1.3 million federal grant. Ball State University Awarded $1.3 Million Grant to Enhance Civics Education in Muncie Community Schools
Ball State University has been awarded a grant from the U.S. Department of Education, totaling more than $1.3 million over three years, for its project, Civic Renewal through Education for Agency, or CREATE. The project is aligned with the American History and Civics Education-National Activities program, which is funded by Congress as part of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), Public Law 114–95.
