Cardinals give back! Join us for the first ever Day of Beneficence: A Ball State Alumni Day of Service. This event gives you and your fellow alumni nationwide and around the globe the opportunity to share your Ball State pride, time, talents, and collective power of volunteerism to make a difference in your own community.

This special day will inspire you to reconnect with fellow Cardinals as well as share the value of giving back with family and friends. Don’t miss out on the chance to work side-by-side with other Cardinals and celebrate the tradition of beneficence!

Register today to be a part of the Day of Beneficence! Ball State alumni and friends can sign up for one of the following service projects in their area or choose to connect with a community partner/organization and register as an independent participant/service project.

 Registration deadline is Friday, March 22.

Habitat for Humanity Rock the Block—Fairfield Township
Rock the Block is a neighborhood clean-up day with exterior home repair and maintenance projects, such as painting and landscaping.

Decatur Parks Cleanup Day
Volunteers will spruce up two of Decatur’s parks —Legion Park and South Ward Park—for the spring. Volunteers should be prepared to walk/stand for an extended amount of time and bend over to pick up sticks/weeds/trash. Please wear weather-appropriate clothing, and prepare to get a little dirty in our clean-up process. Bring your own work gloves. Trash bags, rakes, etc., will be provided.

Food Bank of the Rockies
Volunteers will help pull and build orders for our USDA program from warehouse inventory, ensuring that the orders are correct and ready to be picked up in a timely manner.

Spring Service Day at Ritchey Woods
The annual Spring Service Day at Ritchey Woods helps protect the park’s native wildflowers from invasive plant species. Come ready to dig in at this rain or shine event held in conjunction with the spring service day.

Helping Hands at Community Harvest Food Bank
Community Harvest Food Bank's mission is to alleviate hunger through the full use of donated food and other resources by serving nine counties within Northeast Indiana. On Saturday mornings, this organization distributes food to around 700 people who need assistance. In this role, you would be helping hand out meals to clients, tear down boxes, or help guests carry food to their vehicles. Volunteers are encouraged to wear casual clothing, including closed-toe shoes for this service project. Liability waivers included.

Community Cupboard Assistant at Community Harvest Food Bank

Community Harvest Food Bank's mission is to alleviate hunger through the full use of donated food and other resources by serving nine counties within Northeast Indiana. This organization operates an on-site food pantry that is modeled on a small “Mom-and-Pop” grocery store for clients to purchase meals. During an average day, over 7,000 pounds of food are distributed. In this role, you would sort and stock grocery shelves and assist with other tasks to keep the area neat and running smoothly. Volunteers are encouraged to wear casual clothing, including closed-toe shoes for this service project. Liability waivers included.

Shop Assistant at Habitat for Humanity ReStore 
Habitat for Humanity ReStore sells home improvement items to the public at a fraction of the retail price. Proceeds are used to help build strength, stability, self-reliance, and shelter in local communities and around the world. In this role, you would be assisting with customer service, furniture repair, unloading trucks, stocking shelves, or organizing the warehouse. Volunteers are encouraged to wear casual clothing, including closed-toe shoes for this service project. Liability waivers are included for those under 18 years old, including restrictions to power tools and 6' ladders.

Immersion at The Center in Hollywood
Homeless services agency volunteer opportunity and immersion experience with formerly homeless—”Flourishing in Housing”—clients. Tasks will include help in organizing clothing, light maintenance (e.g. gardening, weeding, paint touch-ups), as well as opportunity for food prep. Following the morning, there will be time for reflection and sharing from both participants and Center staff.

The Michiana Chapter is partnering with the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), specifically with Potato Creek State Park, for a day of service. Volunteers will be helping with various tasks around the park to help beautify one of Indiana's state parks even more. Activities could include installing park benches, helping to level fire pits, painting kiosks, etc. We look forward to spending the day outdoors and helping an organization that means a lot to us.

Camp Adventure
Camp Adventure depends on the support of the community to maintain its high quality facility and current programs. Day of Beneficence at Second Harvest Food Bank
Help sort food and non-food items for distribution throughout Muncie and East Central Indiana. Pending the weather, volunteers can also help spruce up and clean the outside grounds.

Helping the Homeless with the JoyJ Initiative
JoyJ provides essential support to local homeless populations through direct outreach programs. These unique programs provide volunteers with opportunities to engage in “spontaneous philanthropy.” Our group will be putting together care packages with items such as water bottles, fresh socks, seasonal clothing, deodorant/other toiletries, and snacks and distribute them to the homeless around NYC. All new volunteers will be accompanied by experienced group leaders who will assist them for the entire outreach.

Pitch In, Pick Up At Central Park
Volunteering to Pitch In, Pick Up is a great way to help keep Central Park clean and beautiful. After a brief orientation at the Chess & Checkers House, we will be given a trash grabber, gloves, and garbage bags for litter.
