Ball State University is waiting on confirmation from our local public health authorities; however, an employee in our public safety area has let us know that he has tested positive for COVID-19. We wish him well in his recovery.
The University is already taking measures to protect our campus community by moving classes to remote teaching, asking our employees to work remotely, closing our residence halls, and reminding students, faculty and staff about the importance of social distancing measures.
We are also doing “deep cleaning sanitizing” in all of our facilities on campus including housing, dining, and all academic, administrative and athletic facilities. Consistent with CDC guidelines, we are thoroughly cleaning all high touch surface areas throughout campus. We are providing all of our employees remaining on campus with information daily about social distancing and we are also providing them with personal protective equipment to ensure their safety.
It is our hope that by reducing the number of students, faculty and staff on campus, the risk to others continues to be mitigated. Of our 22,000 enrolled students, approximately 100 remain on campus. We also have approximately 300 out of 3,600 essential employees currently on campus.
We will continue to actively educate our campus about COVID-19 prevention strategies, which can be found at www.bsu.edu/coronavirus.
