President Mearns.

Introduction by President Mearns

When our long-term strategic plan was approved by the Board of Trustees in December 2018, we reaffirmed our long-standing commitment to the enduring value of “inclusiveness,”which we define as our commitment “to respect and embrace equity, inclusion, and diversity in people, ideas, and opinions.” The Council on Inclusiveness will develop and recommend the programs, the practices, and the policies that will enable our University to enhance and expand upon our commitment to this enduring value. The Council will build upon the progress that we have made in Inclusive Excellence and Freedom of Expression by merging those important initiatives into a comprehensive, coordinated strategic implementation plan.

The Charge

The Council is charged with reviewing and recommending programs, practices, and policies for faculty, staff, and students concerning cultural and intellectual diversity of people, ideas, and opinions in order to foster and support an inclusive campus community that values the intrinsic worth of all of our people. As such, the Council will revise, recommend, and promote practices for inclusive employment, for inclusive student recruitment and retention, and for promoting cultural inclusiveness and intellectual freedom demonstrating our commitment to inclusiveness. Additionally, the Council will focus on resource development and initiatives.
