The typical teaching load for a philosophy faculty member in the department of Philosophy and Religious Studies is to teach two sections of Introduction to Philosophy, which satisfies core curriculum requirements, and one upper division class for majors.  There is some flexibility, and many of us chose to teach only Introduction to Philosophy during a semester which allows more time and effort to be spent on research.
