Geology
Slide show of images
Welcome to the Department of Geology.  Geologists study the composition of earth, and how best to find, use and protect its mineral, energy and water resources.  Geologists also use their knowledge of the earth's processes to explain threatening events, such as earthquakes, landslides, floods, tidal waves, and volcanic eruptions, and to predict when they may happen again. If you have an interest in the sciences, enjoy working outside, in a laboratory, with computers, or if you plan to teach, you are well suited for a career in geology.  Ball State University geology graduates work in companies involved in environmental and engineering geology, hydrogeology and groundwater protection, petroleum exploration and development, coal geology, and natural gas and geothermal energy production.  Graduates also have jobs in state and national governmental agencies and in colleges.
