PURPOSE OF EXCELLENCE IN LEADERSHIP (EIL)
Excellence in Leadership is a 2-year Emerging Leaders Program. The program focuses on 4 main facets: individual leadership, group leadership, servant leadership and global leadership. Freshmen, Sophomores and Juniors are welcome to join Phase 1 of this program. Participants attend workshops, mentor team meetings, and complete a community service project. The program begins in mid-September and concludes in April. Involved faculty, staff, and students interact with participants as mentors. After completing the first phase, students are invited to participate in Phase 2 of the program.
GOALS OF THE PROGRAM
- To give participants the opportunity to meet other students interested in leadership issues
- To create opportunities for individuals to gain confidence in their own abilities and to learn the skills and ethics needed to help groups progress and achieve
- To increase interaction between faculty and students through out-of-class leadership experiences
- To provide leadership experiences on campus and in the community that will prepare the students for citizenship and community involvement after college
- To prepare students for the responsibilities of leadership and service to the university and society
