The Center for Historic Preservation, founded in 2004, is an outreach arm of Ball State's Master of Science in Historic Preservation Program, which is offered through the Department of Architecture of the College of Architecture and Planning. Graduate Students employed at the Center gain valuable hands-on experience when working with cities, towns, state agencies, Main Street programs, and heritage organizations. Through the Center historic preservation is utilized as a tool to promote economic development, to build and strengthen community identity, and to improve the quality of life for Indiana residents. The Center provides graduate assistantships and internships to an interdisciplinary team of students, especially those studying historic preservation, architecture, landscape architecture, and urban planning.
The Center is located on the Minnetrista Cultural Center campus, which also plays a key role by providing office space in the Mary Lincoln Cottage, one of the historic homes built by the Ball family overlooking White River in downtown Muncie.
