Alcohol and You, Information Every College Student Should Know
Kay Bales
Dear Student,

There are many ways in which the university works to educate students about issues that affect their well-being and success. Among the most visible of those efforts is our alcohol awareness educational effort, which includes ads in the student newspaper, posters in residence halls and around campus, ads on Channel 55, table tents in dining areas, occasional signs hung on the Fly Swatter, sessions on safety and responsibility during Orientation and Welcome Week, and a comprehensive resource booklet distributed to all new students and available to all returning students on the Web.

The alcohol awareness effort is motivated by these goals:

  • To reduce risky behavior that jeopardizes student health, safety, educational success, and personal achievement.
  • To ensure that students are aware of the risks and consequences associated with illegal or irresponsible use of alcohol so that they can make informed decisions.
  • To communicate clearly Ball State's commitment to maintaining a positive educational environment.
  • To maintain the reputation of Ball State University as a healthy environment and academically strong institution.

What does all this mean for you? It means that there is nothing more important to us than the success of our students. We want you to achieve your educational goals and be eligible for the jobs you desire after graduation.

When it comes to our Ball State community, it means we know the vast majority of our students are responsible, law-abiding, and respectful of their neighbors. We stand firm in our commitment to take the steps necessary to ensure that the positive educational environment we all create is not compromised by the actions of a few.

When we talk about reputation, we mean that we are committed to doing everything we can to protect your investment. Graduating from a school better known for the high quality of its academic programs than for partying can make a difference when you start looking for work in today's highly competitive job market.

Personal responsibility is an important part of college. So is helping and supporting your friends. For most, college is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. By working together, we can make that experience truly outstanding.
