The CharlieTown pregame activities return Saturday before the Cardinals face Eastern Kentucky University.
For the second year in a row, the Ball State Alumni Association is sponsoring CharlieTown, a football pregame gathering experience.
Located on the west lawn of the Alumni Center, the event features family friendly $5 meals and activities for children such as face painting, balloon artists and bounce inflatables. A beer garden is also offered, and visitors can buy Ball State gear, enjoy the Pride of Mid-America Marching Band and show their school spirit during appearances of the Ball State cheerleaders and, Charlie Cardinal.
The event started a year ago to boost attendance at football games and create more opportunities for community members to connect with university alumni and friends, said Jen Goins, associate vice president of alumni engagement and the association’s president.
“We really want to encourage our friends in the Muncie community to join us on game days,” she said. “Not only is this a great partnership for the Alumni Association and Ball State, but it’s an even better opportunity to build our overall community.”
Last year, the five-day attendance approached 1,500, and Goins said the Alumni Association is to eager build on that success.
“CharlieTown offers everything you need: food, family friendly activities and, of course, plenty of fanfare. So gear up, come out and join us as we gather together to celebrate the Cardinals and all that makes Ball State special.”
This year’s CharlieTown dates are:
- Saturday, Sept. 17 vs. Eastern Kentucky — Family Weekend
- Saturday, Oct. 1 vs. Northern Illinois
- Saturday, Oct. 22 vs. Akron — Homecoming Weekend
