Ball State University has been recognized for its integration of digital media throughout its campus by an international consortium of learning-focused organizations.
The New Media Consortium (NMC) recently awarded Ball State its 2012 NMC Center of Excellence Award for engaging digital media through the university's Center for Media Design (CMD) and Emerging Media Initiative. The announcement came Feb. 24 during an NMC meeting in Austin, Texas.
The award is the highest honor bestowed by NMC, recognizing demonstrated excellence and outstanding achievement in the application of technology or creative expression.
"When we heard the Center for Media Design was a recipient, we were particularly pleased because of NMC's reach and impact on higher education digital media programs across the country and around the world," said David Ferguson, associate vice president for emerging media initiatives and CMD executive director. "Ball State has made a campuswide effort to engage emerging media, and we have been inspired by the richness of emerging media-related work being done on our campus by faculty, students and staff across almost every discipline and department."
Ball State graduates are excelling in the workplace in media-related fields and leading society toward a digital future, he noted.
Previous winners of the NMC Center of Excellence award include Penn State University, University of California-Berkeley, University of Michigan, University of Texas and University of Wisconsin.
