Ball State President Jo Ann M. Gora issued the following statement in light of the Indiana State Fair stage collapse that occurred on Saturday, Aug. 13. Jennifer Haskell is from the local area, having graduated from nearby Monroe Central Junior-Senior High School.

On behalf of the Ball State family, I extend our deepest sympathies and compassion to those who lost loved ones in the state fair stage collapse. Please continue to keep them and the victims that remain in critical condition in your thoughts. Our attention is particularly focused on Jennifer Haskell, a Ball State senior, as she remains in critical condition.

Jennifer is a dedicated student both in and out of the classroom. An exercise science major, Jennifer also serves on our landscaping crew. Students, parents and faculty returning to campus this week can appreciate Jennifer's hard work to make campus beautiful. Her supervisors tell me that Jennifer takes deep pride in her contributions and is one of the crew's hardest workers. Jennifer is also a passionate Cardinal. She loves cheering on the women's basketball team.

Her condition is critical. I ask that we all keep Jennifer and her family in our hearts and pray for her full and speedy recovery. I remain hopeful that she will soon return to campus to study, plant flowers and cheer on the Cardinals.
