Joseph F. Howell has donated $50,000 to Ball State University to create a scholarship fund for nursing students in honor of his mother, June Gadbury Howell. Joseph was employed by Ball State for more than 37 years in the carpenter's shop.
June Gadbury was born in Hartford City, Ind. She graduated from Hartford City High School in 1929. She was a member of the first graduating class from Ball Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1932. June married Joseph M. Howell and had two children, Joseph F. and Julie G. Howell.
June was an active member of Ball State University School of Nursing Alumni Association, High Street United Methodist Church, Tri Kappa Sorority Alpha Chapter, Paul Revere Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution, Ball Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the American Red Cross.
This fund was created to assist junior or senior status students majoring in nursing who demonstrate a financial need. Availability of the June Gadbury Howell Memorial Scholarship in Nursing is dependent upon an awards selection process established by Ball State and its academic departments.
