George Irving has donated $25,000 in memory of his late wife to create the Dr. June Irving Scholarship for Early Childhood Education. June Irving earned her master's and doctoral degrees from Ball State.
Irving attended Eastern Michigan University and received her bachelor's degree and teaching credentials from the University of Michigan.
She taught at elementary school in Chelsea, Mich.; East Palo Alto, Calif.; Oneonta, New York; and Muncie Community Schools. Irving became a professor of educational psychology at Ball State, where she remained for 22 years before retiring in 1993.
The scholarship is for juniors or seniors majoring in early childhood education. Recipients must have a passion for working with young children and maintain minimum standards for the program.
