Arthur Levine, the president of the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation, will discuss "Preparing Tomorrow's Teachers and School Leaders" during a lecture at Ball State.

Levine will speak at 7 p.m. Sept. 25 in the Art and Journalism Building, room 175. This event is free and open to the public.

Founded in 1945, the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation is devoted to improving the quality of education at all levels and enhancing the way schools prepare teachers, school leaders, researchers and policymakers.

Levine is an outspoken critic of the state of the teacher education and is the author of three reports released by the Education Schools Project.

  • "Educating School Leaders" candidly analyses university-based programs that educate the vast majority of the nation's school principals and superintendents.
  • "Educating School Teachers" identifies several model teacher education programs.
  • "Educating Researchers" focuses on the need for quality education research.

Levine has served as a consultant to more than 250 colleges and universities. In addition, he was president and professor of education at the Teachers College of Columbia University. He is the author of many articles and reviews. His work frequently appears in the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post and the Chronicle of Higher Education.
