Ball State's Center for Media Design (CMD) will sponsor the grand reopening of the Mitchell Place Studio, 301 S. Walnut in downtown Muncie on Oct. 3.

The space will be utilized by three Digital Exchange immersive learning institutes that provide educational opportunities for students. The institutes also will begin offering digital media training, community outreach programs and collaboration opportunities to help Delaware County businesses compete by using digital media technology.

A reception will be from 5 to 7 p.m. at Mitchell Place with Ball State President Jo Ann M. Gora providing opening remarks at 5:30 p.m. The event is open to the public.

In 2006, Ball State's CMD began leasing space in downtown Muncie to house student immersive learning programs focusing on the development of entertainment and educational video content, digital intermedia art and digital fabrication projects.

The remodeled space will continue to serve as educational centers for the Institute for Digital Entertainment and Education (IDEE), the Institute for Digital Intermedia Arts and Animation (IDIAA) and the Institute for Digital Fabrication (IDF). Each of the institutes, as well as the CMD's Insight and Research program and the Digital Production Corps, also will provide workshops and special events.

The immersive learning institutes are a result of a $20 million grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. to Ball State to fund the Digital Exchange, an initiative focused on development of innovative education in digital media, establishing national digital media research and consultation, and stimulating Indiana's media-related industry. The institutes and the downtown center are administered by Ball State's CMD.
