Ball State University Homecoming 2006
Ball State will celebrate 81 years of tradition and Cardinal pride with
Homecoming 2007.
From Oct. 8 to 13, Ball State will commemorate its homecoming with reunions and events for alumni, students and the entire Muncie community.
"The main goal of homecoming is to get both students and alumni excited about Ball State University," said Michelle Johnson, Homecoming Steering Committee adviser. "Not only do we have several events throughout homecoming week for the campus, community and alumni to enjoy, but we also cap off the week with the Saturday celebration and football game."
Events include the popular bed race, talent search, air jam, royalty fashion show and the parade, which draws nearly 100 participants from Ball State and the Muncie community each year. This year's parade theme is "Roll out the Red." Awards will be given for best bands, floats, banners, car/walking units, golf cart entries, baton/dance and equestrian.
According to Johnson, a new event will be added this year. On Oct. 9, there will be a bonfire at LaFollette Field directly following opening ceremonies at 7 p.m. in Irving Gym. Also new this year, the faculty/staff royalty will be crowned at the bonfire.
On Oct. 10, the Homecoming Steering Committee will host Music on McKinley at 5 p.m. This is an event highlighting student performers playing on various spots along the avenue. Also Oct. 10, a fireworks show will be held at LaFollette Field at 9 p.m. The fireworks are sponsored by the Student Government Association.
The Cardinals will play the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers in the homecoming football game at 2 p.m. Oct. 13 at the newly renovated Scheumann Stadium.
The Homecoming Steering Committee consists of selected student volunteers under the leadership of the Ball State University Alumni Association.
"This year's Homecoming Steering Committee has been working hard the past seven months to plan one of the best homecomings ever," Johnson said.
