Hans Kellogg, assistant professor of technology within the
graphic arts management program, received the Educator of the Year Award from the Print and Graphics Scholarship Foundation.
The award recognizes excellence in educational instruction for graphic communications and printing. Kellogg received the award Sept. 10 at Graph Expo 2007 in Chicago.
"The students nominate educators who have had a significant impact on their education and college experience," said Ted Ringman, vice president of development at the foundation. "Professor Kellogg brings a highly energetic and enthusiastic approach to all of his classes, and with his industry background, he is able to bring the real world of graphic communications into the classroom."
Requirements for the award include a student nomination and letters of recommendation from the department chairperson and colleagues within and outside of Ball State. Kellogg, one of 12 contenders in the contest, said the nomination came as a shock.
"This whole process has been amazing," he said. "When I was first approached with this idea, I was proud that my students wanted to nominate me. To me, that was reward enough. The fact that your own students feel you are doing a good job makes teaching all that more rewarding."
