Officials from Ball State and Kalasalingam University in India signed a memorandum of understanding to create an exchange program for students and faculty.
Ball State President Jo Ann M. Gora and Chelliah Thangaraj, vice chancellor of Kalasalingam University signed the agreement on Sept. 24. Activities envisioned under this program include exchange of faculty, staff and students, and collaboration in research and instruction.
A three-member delegation from Kalasalingam visited Ball State Sept. 24-25 and met administrators and faculty from several departments. The visit was organized by Jay Bagga, professor of computer science, who will direct the activities of this exchange program.
Kalasalingam University is in the southern Indian state of Tamilnadu. It has a student population of about 10,000, and it offers undergraduate and graduate programs in areas such as basic sciences, computer, civil and electronics engineering, information technology and biotechnology.
"This is Ball State's second exchange program in Tamilnadu, India," Bagga said. "An exchange program with Annamalai University has been in existence since 1998. This opens up new opportunities for exchange, study-abroad and collaboration activities for Ball State's students and faculty."
