The Ball family and their legacy of philanthropy helped shape Ball State University. Their foresight and commitment to beneficence allows our students and employees to fly. When referring to the Ball family, we often focus on the five Ball brothers and their legacy. With the Ball Family Leadership Legacy Fund for Women, we honor the women who have proven to be active visionaries and contributors to our community.

Inspired by the Ball family legacy, the fund recognizes the long history of outstanding women who have served Ball State by providing professional development scholarships. Eligible recipients are female identifying administrative, support, and service staff members. The awards will be used to further sharpen the recipient's skills, talents, and leadership abilities.

Nomination Process

Anyone may submit a nomination letter on behalf of a female identifying administrative, support, or service staff employee who has worked for the University for at least five years. The letter must state why the nominee is deserving of professional development funds and how the person demonstrates Ball State’s enduring values, symbolized by Beneficence. The deadline to submit a nomination is September 15, 2020.

Once nominated, the nominee must submit their professional development goals and activities to be approved by the committee. Funds will be awarded for these activities according to University guidelines and regulations, and all awarded funds must be used within the fiscal year they are awarded.

The committee will make awards based on available funding. Individuals can receive the award once every two years.
