Jack Carson, President of Carson Design Associates, Texas, will speak about How Technology is Enhancing the Design Process. As the President of Carson Design Associates’ Texas offices, Jack plays an active role in projects, while providing the high-level direction setting that has helped the firm become an industry leader in thoughtful, cutting-edge design.
Since founding the company in Carmel, Indiana in 1991, Carson Design Associates has expanded their services to include interior design, architecture, facilities management support, systems furniture planning and specification, and building information modeling (BIM). Jack received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Environmental Design from Ball State University. After graduating, he worked at a series of firms, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. This inspired him to open Carson Design Associates, where he could build upon those strengths.
The top touch points Carson will discuss are:
- Driving the BIM Model with data from an external database.
With a connection to an external database, information can be collected from the BIM Model and sent and stored, to an external database. This connection can also send stored information from the database to the model. This information can drive parametric content.
- Utilization of Virtual Reality in the design process.
With our process we are able to utilize virtual reality at very early stages of design. This allows the designer to experience design decisions as they are making them throughout the entire design process.
- The use of Dynamo Scripts in computations inside of Revit
Dynamo Scripts automate intensive time consuming tasks. Calculations can be included in these scripts to study complex 3 dimensional organic structures.
- How the Cloud and Forge software is improving the use of the BIM Model.
Forge software combines the graphics of the model to information in an external database into an accessible format.
- How the Internet can drive the BIM Model
Forge software enables anyone to access the BIM Model from any internet connection. This is being used as a communication tool with all team members of a project including, designers, contractors and building owners.
- The future of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the design process
With utilizing all the tools discussed above, AI is beginning to help designers perform more complicated investigations in their designs.
